One in five constitutions missing from Union website

An analysis by Felix has found that the constitutions of 77 out of 361 student societies were missing from the Imperial College Union (ICU) webpage. This appears to be due to a technical error in the ICU’s system.

A society constitution is a document that online the student group’s function, setting out their “management structure and procedures”, including committee role description and eligibility criteria, and general meeting rules. ICU’s “Clubs, Societies and Projects Policy” requires constitutions to be updated or confirmed yearly, which affected groups have not been able to do.

The issue has affected major societies such as the FemTech, Civil Engineering, Venture Capital Private Equity, and A Capella Societies. Some cultural societies, including the USA and Ukrainian ones, have been impacted as well.

A representative for Imperial College Union said, “We’re aware of an issue with the system that stores club and society constitutions and have been working with our systems team to try and fix this and identify a better solution. Once a reliable process is in place, we’ll invite clubs and societies to re-confirm or update their constitutions.”

It is not clear what impact, if any, this error has had on the functioning of student societies.
