The origin of the Centrefold

The origin of the Centrefold

Felix’s nude centrefolds are now notorious amongst sports teams and freshers who still get squeamish about nudity. First introduced in 2005 after some trial runs in the years prior, the centrefold started as a way to advertise yourself, before becoming a sports team tradition by the late 2010s. However, its origins in Felix are much more interesting: in the 1950s, profiles of students were included in editions, first humorous, but then evolving into more serious features. By the late 1960s and 1970s, the profile had become “Page 3”, where students (often women) were advertised, in the hopes of attracting friends, or perhaps lovers.

Also, we would have re-enacted this lovely drawing with the hockey team, but they didn’t reply to our emails, despite several follow-ups from the Editor and their contacts. We may feature one for Varsity though...

Imperial security team trials body cameras

Imperial Community Safety and Security (CSS) officers have started a four-week trial of wearing Body-Worn Cameras (BWC) on patrol duty since Wednesday 20th August.  According to Imperial’s BWC code of practice, the policy aims at enhancing on-campus “safety and wellbeing” as well as protecting security staff from inaccurate allegations.
