Imperial's Spanish and Latin American societies merge

On Thursday 13th November, Union Council members unanimously approved the merger of Imperial’s Spanish and Latin American Societies. This comes after a year of inactivity for the Latin American Society led hopeful joiners to seek solace in the Spanish Society’s shared “cultural and linguistic roots,” according to the society’s President, Jorge Sobrino.

With its newly combined budget and widened reach, the society plans to build upon its existing success stories – including its football fixtures against UCL Spanish Society, mus (a traditional Basque card game) tournaments, joint socials with fellow Spanish societies, and its annual “Mums & Dads” event.

The society is also seeking Spanish and Latin American speakers from compelling professional and academic backgrounds to speak at an event for members in the winter term.

Under its new name, the “Spanish and Latin American Society” certainly has a bright future ahead.
