Imperial defeats Sheffield in University Challenge

Imperial College London’s University Challenge team has progressed into the semi-finals after narrowly beating the University of Sheffield 160-120.

Sheffield took a strong lead, but Imperial managed an impressive comeback thanks to the efforts of team captain Oscar O’Flanagan.

“Imperial, that kimchi keeps bringing you luck,” quipped host Amol Rajan, referring to the jar of kimchi placed between the feet of Imperial’s mascot, a penguin. The kimchi is a reference to a bonus round question on Korean cuisine that ensured the team could continue to compete in the quiz tournament.

Imperial is once again in the running for their sixth UC title, following their exit from the competition in the quarter-final stage last year.
