Students stage solidarity walkout with Minneapolis protestors

Six students gathered on Queen’s Lawn on Friday 30th January, as part of a walkout in solidarity with protesters in Minneapolis, in the aftermath of recent fatal shootings involving United States immigration enforcement.
The event was organised by the Imperial Social Worker Student Society (SWSS) in collaboration with Stand Up To Racism, a UK-wide network of anti-racist and student activist groups.
Protesters assembled at midday, carrying placards and chanting support for communities in the United States they say have been affected by aggressive immigration enforcement and the rise of far-right political rhetoric.
SWSS members described the gathering as both symbolic and political. One protester said, “The protests against ICE should not be confined to the US, and we need to pay attention and fight back on UK campuses.” Another added, “We are standing in solidarity with the communities facing terror in the US.”
