The Imperial College branch of the UCU has passed a vote of no confidence in Alice Gast.
The motion, proposed by the branch committee was passed with 10 votes to 1. A spokesperson of the Union said that this vote was intended to show the unified position of the members.
This comes after a tumultuous time for labour relations with the College with two extended disputes and two strikes taking place in the last two years. A source in the UCU, however, said that these labour disputes were caused by the College’s behaviour.
“It is exactly the same as 6 years ago” they said referring to the suicide of staff member Stephen Grimm who committed suicide after struggling to keep up with metrics brought in to evaluate staff performance. “The higher ups claim that things will change but nothing ever does”.
When asked if this could result in further action the spokesperson insisted that there were currently no plans to strike.
