Give it away!
Unfortunately, Something for the Weekend’s store of great gear to give away is temporarily exhausted this week, so you shall have to make do with some of the amusing answers that came in for our Classroom Clangers competition in SftW 1075.
First up we have Simon Buckle of the department of Computing who has being having trouble understanding one of his lecturers, Dr Janko Mrsic-Flögel. Dr Mrsic-Flögel has been unfairly compared to the Swedish chef from the Muppets for this little gem:
Dr Mrsic Flögel: "Doopy Doop be Doop!"
whilst in the middle explaining operating systems to his class.
Step forward Simon, and Dr Mrsic Flögel too, for you have both won a copy of the most fantastic accessory to any remainder bin, Classroom Clangers. To claim your copy, come to the Felix Office in the far left corner of Beit Quad.
Biology is where the next culprit lectures, but he (or she) has been saved from embarrassment by the discretion of undergraduate Pauline Brocard to not mention their name.
Nevertheless, their quote is written in black and white:
"I apologise. Too few lectures were attended and when attended struggled to stay awake. However, I have heard rumours that amusing things have been heard."
It sounds like Biology lectures must be quite rivetting for the lecturer as well as the lectured. Anyway, congratulations, Pauline, for being brave enough to jot down a few lines, you have won yourself a sadly non-exclusive copy of Classroom Clangers. Please come and find us to pick up your prize!
And that was it for the publishable quotes. It seems that IC’s lecturers are a fairly erudite lot, not afraid to use the vast expanse of the English language to drive their point home. Not all of it is printable, however, so their slightly more flavoursome language can safely be kept within the lecture theatre.
Next week shall be updating you all on the Yahoo competition (which loads of people have entered) and Felix will be keeping you abreast of the cut and thrust of the Fantasy Sabbatical League (which not quite so many people have entered - there is still time before the deadline of Monday evening, so grab a copy of the main section and have a go).
