The Times and Sunday Times name Imperial University of the Year 2027
Imperial placed third in the overall UK universities ranking, behind runner-up LSE, named top London University of the Year, and first-place St Andrew’s, in the 2027 edition of The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide. Placing 6th last year, this result marks the first time the College has surpassed both Oxford and Cambridge in the ranking. The results also saw the College recognised in three categories, including medical education and graduate employment.
The ranking considers several areas of university performance, including student experience, research quality and sustainability. It also draws on the NSS 2026, where Imperial ranked second for overall satisfaction among Russell Group providers. The College ranked first in London in four of seven categories: learning opportunities, student voice, learning resources and teaching on my course.
These recognitions mark an important shift, as Imperial continues to embrace their unique STEMB focus, rich connections and international perspective: “This set of ingredients is unusual, hard to replicate and at the heart of Imperial’s global competitiveness, reputation, and ranking”, remarks Professor Hugh Brady, President of Imperial College London.
