New mural to be painted in White City

The Stadium House building in the Imperial White City campus will be home to a new artistic mural, expected to be installed from 27 July to 5 August.

The initiative was co-created by the White City community and Imperial members, with artists Aylo and Seca selected to produce it.

The artists ran workshops at White City Campus to gather input from the local community. According to Imperial, this included drop-in sessions for researchers, staff, and students; creative workshops including opportunities to meet the artists; and tours of laboratories, departments and the local area.

While the design is yet to be released, Imperial said the piece would be “a reflection of curiosity, potential, and the importance of inspiration in shaping future pathways.” It will depict a young scientist and will contain references to both White City and Imperial, including a test tube, Japanese flowers referring to the nearby Garden of Peace, and a Central line-inspired circuit board.

Imperial hopes that this first public art project at White City campus, will be a stepping stone for further artworks for the campus in the future.

Past mural designs have proved divisive: one 2023 design for the Roderic Hill Building was widely decried on social media for its perceived cheesiness.
