Peter Haynes sets out priorities for his tenure as Provost

Professor Peter Haynes set out four main pillars for Imperial’s future governance, two weeks after he took office as the College’s Provost. The priorities are to deliver on Imperial’s strategy, to grow the university’s resource in a financially stable and sustainable way, to invest wisely, and the enable smart work.

Haynes looks to “champion the academic elements” on Imperial’s “Science for Humanity” strategy, particularly in terms of staff engagement.

Regarding university finances, the Provost wishes to capitalise on Imperial’s current financial health by raising grants and charitable funds in an “ambitious, confident and supportive” way, and attractive a more diverse student body. 

He expressed support for the College’s investments in new digital infrastructure and campus expansions, including plans for a new White City building dedicated to artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Hayne’s final priority is to ensure staff members can make the best use of their time, with “fair and reasonable” workloads.

Haynes took over the roles of Provost and Deputy President on 1st October.
