World University Rankings 2027

Imperial retained eighth place, Asian universities surpass mainland Europe for the first time.

Imperial has retained eighth place in the 2027 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, remaining among the world’s top 10 universities since 2023.

The ranking places Imperial behind the Oxford (first for a record of 11 years in a row), MIT, Princeton, Stanford, Cambridge, Harvard, and Caltech. The College also remains the UK’s third-highest ranked institution.

The wider rankings point to a shifting global higher education landscape, as 2,297 universities across 118 countries and territories were included in this year’s rankings.

Asian universities surpassed mainland European institutions for the first time: China’s Tsinghua University rose to 11th, overtaking Switzerland’s ETH Zurich. Peking University placed 13th, and the National University of Singapore 15th, marking the first time three Asian universities have appeared in the global top 15.
