Great Hall redevelopment updates (again)

The redevelopment of the Great Hall has been subject to several delays and budget revisions since works started in April 2025. A Freedom of Information request by Felix in June found that the redeveloping project would be finalised in December 2026, six months after initially planned, and due to reopen in March 2027.

New updates reveal construction work continues to progress and will be completed in the spring. Felix also understands those using the Great Hall will receive training as the space “will work in a different way to other spaces at Imperial”.

The Great Hall and the Pippard lecture theatre are expected to become timetabled teaching spaces starting in the 2027-28 academic year.

The works begun with the aim of converting the space into a venue that, when not used for an event, can be converted into three separate lecture halls.

The College is yet to confirm if and how after the renovations, the Great Hall will continue to be an exam  and events venue or a Friday prayer space.
